What are
“Best Management Practices?"
VERSIÓN EN
ESPAÑOL
For Centuries, Management has been changing shapes
and needs. Just as human beings evolve, this activity has become more demanding all the time. That has created
the need to modify the “Management Styles” in order to fit the requirements of society. The Best Management
Practices will have certain specialties depending on their application and the needs of each group. The purpose
then will focus on the particular activities of the group or Team.
“Management
Styles”
From the barbarian authoritarianism to Today’s
Leadership the conduct of Managers is under scrutiny all the time. The more educated an informed is the
workforce, the kinder, more educated, and better motivator the Leader needs to be. The concept of “Authority”
has drastically changed. The “military” style no longer is valid, ironically not even in the Military. It is a
shame since my sergeant’s voice no longer is a valuable asset!
Human Relations experienced a strong development in
the last quarter of the past Century. Great advocates of human rights, exceptional role models, brilliant
thinkers, rose together to RESHAPE the concept of Command: created between 1250 and 1300
“OldFrench
commander, from Latin
com (intensive)+mandāre toentrust,enjoin”,.
Now
there is a new, more current meaning: “common mandate” or co-mandate. Far from the slavery times, today most
leaders are discovering that there is a natural despising of “receiving orders from others” and what is
naturally welcome is “the opportunity to help and be of service.” Indeed today we have learned that whatever the
position, our rights are the same.
Best Management
Practices…
The "Best Management Practices" would be those
that enhance and
facilitate the interaction with people with respect of their individuality and still getting things done. These Best
Management Practices must equip us with a new set of People Skills which will allow us to earn the support,
help, and cooperation of others in order to accomplish our Team’s
Goals.
Logically, Communication Skills would come at the top of these Practices. Only with
the good skill to convey your message can you interact. It will be necessary to pay attention not only
to what you say or
write, but how you
do it!
Once you turn into a natural in the Correct and the Polite or Politically
Correct way to communicate, there are some important ingredients that will make you a very thorough
Manager in these competitive times. The good news is that by adopting this “World Class” Management Style, you
are not only likely to preserve the best elements in your team, but unbelievably, you will be turning the worst
into some of the best. Is this not a terrific payback? Of course it is!
The other Best things you can and should do…
One critical tool for you to become the “Dream Manager” will be
“Empathy.” Another will be "Motivation"
Empathy is: The art of truly understanding others by developing an
authentic interest and understanding of their personal attributes, background, and feelings.

Motivation is the optimal skill to bring up the best features of people by having them
discover "What is in It for Them," which happens to be the first question that comes to mind each time that
someone asks us to do something.
