Batteries for Electric Vehicles Their evolution is making them more accessible all the time

Evolution has been a very familiar event in the recent times. We have seen more evolution in the last 30 years than others saw in the previous 3 Centuries.

Computers, Communications, and all the Sciences and Technologies have transformed our environment big time. Batteries are no exception. Batteries for electric vehicles are at this point the objective and focus of a myriad of researchers, chemists, physicists, engineers, technicians, and all kinds of specialists.

The Lead-Acid batteries that still store and provide the electric power to our conventional cars are the most popular. They were invented in the 1800s and will probably be powering many production-electric-cars in the near future, as we can see in the BG products. Actually those batteries have been powering golf and club electric carts and even industrial electric fork lift trucks for more than sixty years.

The recent growing demand of electric cars, which is advancing in geometrical proportions, requires thet new alternatives be taken. Just a few decades ago, the Nickel-Metal-Hydride batteries represented an important advancement in this technology. Unfortunately there was a crocked move that allowed like in the old times, for some obscure interests to overtake the industry and its patents and freeze and cripple the technology, issuing law suits against companies that were using it, Ford and Honda among them. Watch a video on that subject: What caused for perfectly functional and very efficient vehicles to be recalled and destroyed. If you have the time (1 ½ hours) we invite you to watch this video: "Who Killed the Electric Car?" It is a Shame! on GM, on Chevron, on the California and Federal governmental entities... Go ahead and watch it even if in segments... pausing once in a while to keep doing what you have to do... For larger format CLICK HERE to watch it directly from Google

That has been a ganging up in one stupid attempt to keep humanity slave to the petroleum derivate fuels benefitting a few Government favorite companies. I say stupid because after a few years, electric cars are still alive and strong and will eventually payback to the greedy powers that killed the previous initiatives. Auto makers will for sure see their revenue reduced, because they currently make a lot of their money from providing expensive and not always very good maintenance and electric cars do not require oil changes and reduces drastically the number of parts and components that may need replacement, but independent companies can leave them simply out of business by producing new brands of electric vehicles.

A new generation of batteries is now in the verge of transforming the market again and this time will possibly provide a long term solution. The Lithium-Ion battery is being developed big time. The promise of lithium is even more powerful that the predecessors because it is the lightest metal known to be used to this purpose.

Electric vehicles with Lithium-Ion batteries have started showing up in the popular market and will be more commercial by the year-model 2010, and likely become the standard in decades to come. By going the electric cars into mass production those batteries will start coming down in cost and eventually substitute the Lead-Acid more than a Century old technology. Hopefully the bad spirits will not be capable of derailing progress this time and we all be benefitted from this advancement.
